4th International Social Housing Festival
Barcelona | 6-9 June 2023
After the scoping workshop in Berlin (2020) and the international gathering in Belgrade (2022), we wanted the main closing event to be in Barcelona and the 4th International Social Housing Festival, 7–9 June, offered the ideal platform. The 80-minute podium discussion “MAP! Mobilizing alternatives by and for people through mapping and maps” was held on 7 June at the Francesca Bonnemaison cultural center with around 70 guests attending. After a brief introduction about the project’s framework, there were three rounds of questions to the speakers to clarify the contexts in which they work, the concepts and features of the interactive maps, and the operationalization strategies they employed or plan to employ. It is worth mentioning that the BGD team released their map in April 2023 (with approx. 12,000 unique visitors within two weeks), the BCN team released their map at this event, and the BLN team plans to release their map in September 2023. The ensuing discussion with the audience visited different issues, and during the following days we enjoyed great media coverage of the Stop Evictions! map.

7 June // Ada Colau, “alcaldesa,” mayor of Barcelona 2015–2023, ISHF opening address. A long career as an activist for housing justice, and an icon.
For the record, this activity was the first time all CMMM team members met in person!... And we had the pleasure of the company of two Advisory Committee members.
